MY PORTRAIT

MY PORTRAIT

I pre-coated the canvass with titanium
white
Then sketched the face with charcoal
chalk.
I drew the lines lightly, marking the
curves,
And shaded the parts blocked by the
light.

I brushed the hair with ebony paint
But softened the strokes with streaks of
gray
Colored the head and face with scarlet
umber
Darkened the picture to mask the inborn
frail.

I enhanced the lips with a mix of
lighter crimson,
The nose not too pointed, nor flaky-
flat,
Enlivened the eyes to match the current
season,
And lifted the chin, to pose the best
shot.

I painted the background with mossy
green,
Erased the deep shades to reveal some
gold
A trace of yellows behind the nimbus
cloud,
And came out with a portrait of an aging
world.
